Directed by Mohamed Soueid, Cinema Fouad follows Khaled El Kurdi, a young Syrian trans woman living in Beirut. While earning her way as a domestic worker and cabaret belly dancer, Khaled reflects on her desire to undergo gender reassignment surgery while also mourning the death of her lover, a Palestinian freedom fighter. In solidarity, we will be playing a selection of sounds from Syrian, Lebanese and Palestinian artists with a post-screening discussion on the film's themes and topics.
